Street lighting

 

The product range of Valopaa Ltd. includes led light fixtures for lighting of streets and roads, city centers, pedestrian and bicycle ways, underpasses, signs and billboards. The products are available in many different output capacities, making them suitable to different sized streets and roads. Special cases, such as lighting of underpasses or signs and billboards, have their own VP LED light fixtures, which were developed from the request of our customers.

 

Lighting of pedestrian and bicycle ways

Very energy efficient led lighting solutions for the pedestrian and bicycle ways can be build with the LED light fixtures of Valopaa Ltd. Below you´ll find an example of LED lighting implementation, where a two-module LED light fixture (lens V11) was used, pole height being 6 meters and pole distance 40 meters. The energy consumption is 23 W, power ratio 0,9 and the lighting fulfills the requirements of class K5 (requirements as per the Finnish Road Administration). This lighting implementation takes place in Oulu Finland, at the district of Saarela, at a pedestrian and bicycle way. At the same site there are also VP LED light fixtures with 4 led modules and lens V6.

 

 

The VP LED light fixtures are suitable for energy efficient lighting implementations at pedestrian and bicycle ways when the pole distance is between 20-40 meters and the pole height is at least 5 meters. Below you´ll find an example of a lighting scenario that is based on the lighting measurements of VP3111 M2 led light fixture, with lens V11, administered by Aalto University´s School of Science and Technology. Road and street lighting

The VP1301 led street light fixture is available in four different output capacities, and hence is applicable to many different lighting classes and sites. Below you´ll find an example of LED lighting implementation that fulfills the requirements of class AL5 (requirements as per the Finnish Road Administration). The lighting scenario is based on the lighting measurements of VP1301 M6 LED street light fixture, with lens V12, administered by Aalto University´s School of Science and Technology. Underpass lighting

The VP2221 led light fixture was originally developed to substitute the old buried laying light fixture popularly used in lighting of underpasses. The old light fixture is removed and the slot is covered with the new LED light fixture. The VP LED light fixtures have the following advantages in the use in lighting of underpasses:
- Energy efficiency
- Tolerance to mechanical strain
- Reliable, low level of maintenance. All led modules have their own current supply.
- High safety, dangerous voltage cannot be reached without removing the whole light fixture (with many of the old lighting technologies, removing or breaking the covering plexiglass instantly causes danger).
- High in colour rendering 

The pictures above present a pedestrian underpass that runs under a highway in Oulu, Finland. The picture on the left is a modeling draft from the planning phase. The picture on the right is from the actual realized lighting site.

 

A pedestrian underpass that goes below a main road has VP2221 M4 LED light fixtures.  

 

Lighting of traffic circles and other spotlighting

The VP3111 led spotlight fixture provides energy efficient and maintainable lighting to different objects within street areas. Traffic circles and other special sites and objects within street areas can be illuminated with the VP LED light fixtures.

 

   

Lighting of bridges  

The VP3311 led light fixtures are suitable also for lighting of street and roads when they are installed to the bridge structure. A pedestrian bridge in Sotkamo, Finland has been illuminated with the VP3311 M6 LED light fixture. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

 

Lighting of signs and billboards

The lighting of signposts can be implemented in an energy efficient manner by renewing the technology inside the light fixture. The VP3241 led change kit is available for Elektroskandia´s model H-8960 and Idman´s model 80722. Only one sixth of the energy is used compared compared to the old technology and the VP3241 LED light fixture produces a more even light distribution than old mercury vapor lamps. Installing the LED change kit takes approximately only as long as it takes to change the traditional mercury vapor lamp.   

The following benefits are obtained with the modernization of the lighting;
- cost effective way to replace the old mercury vapor lamps 
- considerable increase in energy efficiency 
- more even light distribution
- better color rendering 
- consirably lower maintenance costs 
- the signs won't need expensive reflective coatings. The modernization prolongs the life cycle of the sign.
- the investment has short pay-back period; energy efficiency, low level of maintenance and inexpensive coating of the sign suffice.
